Mignonette grand opening party

Stop by the bridal shop Saturday to say hello and check out everything it has to offer! If you or someone you know is planning a wedding this would be the perfect time for them to swing by and check out the joint. You can get the opportunity to talk to Kpoene' about your wedding or just take a look at all the cute locally handmade items &/or vintage items scattered around the shop. The very talented veil/headpieces/sash designer, Janessa, of Violet Bells Bridal will be having a trunk show where you can see her amazing designs (seriously guys, she's awesome). You can even take a looksie at my necklaces up close and personal. Hope to see you there!
Here's a sneak peek of some of the lovely veils you'll see at the show!

Quick little touch-up

Emily stopped by for a color touch-up
this morning before she had to run off to
her internship.

Isn't she a pretty little thing?

baby, it's warm outside?

Holy 56 degrees! Spring weather in January? What a lovely surprise that was. Josie and I went to the park with Kate & Jakey (little guy we both babysit), and then on a little walk. Best news? We'll be able to run outside tonight! Yay for not having to workout indoors.

round & round, up & down

Stopped by the carousel today while nannying.
Hard day at work!

Indie Wed

The Indie Wed bridal show was a pretty good time. The other stylist and I split the models and I had four girls to do in what ended up being an hour and a half. We did pretty simple updos: high buns, different types of braids, and a twisted little get-up that I put together. The vendors were all really cool and had their own little personalities in each booth. One even had a little love bike that was riding around the room. The room itself was awesome because it was surrounded by classic cars. Love it! And to top it off they had a live band playing. All in all, it was a good day filled with good people.

My models & updos for the show!

A few teaser pics from Indie Wed!

Mignonette just posted some pictures from Saturday's bridal show. Just thought I'd share one or two before bed!

Photographs are by the very talented Ben Chandler.

Downtown for a movie

The family and I decided to go see a movie of Kate's choosing today. She read the book, We Need to Talk About Kevin, (which she highly recommends) and it only was playing downtown as it is a limited release. So, I threw together another new hairdo for her and we headed to Chicago for the afternoon!

Oh, and I'm not making this up: this sign was posted right outside the box office. City livin' I tell ya.

Pinterest Recipe Party

Ashley doing some last minute touches.                  Our not so fancy layout.                    Drinking beer while cooking was
absolutely one of the steps in the recipe.

My friends and I have developed a new reason to get together, eat good food, and drink. Like everyone and their mother we are all obsessed with Pinterest. Because it's awesome. So we decided to all choose a recipe we found through the website, cook it up, and serve it to some of the people we love best; whilst consuming ice cold delicious beer. Last night was our second go at it and all of the food was fabulous. I'm always looking for yummy, healthy meals so I decided to do "Cauliflower Crust Pizza" (thanks to my sister Kate after my first choice fell through). Basically, the cauliflower replaces that doughy goodness that's in good old fashioned pizza. And it actually was pretty delicious. I've got to perfect the crust for next time, but I would totally make it again. Ashley brought the most scrumptious fruit salsa with cinnamon sugar pita chips combo and also eggplant/tomato/parmesean stacked hors d'oeuvres. And Molly brought yummy bruschetta--and you can never go wrong with that.

Ashley's lovely dishes.              Mol's also lovely dish.
My favorite beers lately: Bell's Oberon & Amber Ale. My pizza pre-baked.

I really don’t have to say much about this bridal shop. I only have to show you pictures and you can see how insanely adorable it is. And don’t get me started on the dresses. They are unbelievable; with their delicate features and gorgeous fabrics, you can tell that every square inch of each dress was made with love and care by talented little fingers. Then there’s a whole section just for the dudes; and it’s vintage menswear to top it off. So cute! Aside from that, the shop has a handful of vendors who each sell their own handmade items through Mignonette. From jewelry, to candles, to cards this shop has a great little variety going on (including some of my jewelry). What’s great about everything inside is that it’s not just for weddings. You can find so many items that would make great presents or every day purchases. And then forget about the shop esthetic itself: exposed brick, black and white checkered floors, a chandelier—and get this: a bay window encases the dressing room where you also find a fireplace. For pete’s sake.
I’ve been there a bunch of times now and I can’t ever get over the extreme cuteness going on. Wanna know what the icing on the cake is? The shop owner Kpoene’ is one of the loveliest people I have ever met. So, if you know anyone who wants to have the most adorable wedding ever, send them to Mignonette in Lakeview to visit her! Oh, and uh..make sure they check out the “Garden Rose” necklaces (I hear they’re really cute!)

Indie Wed tomorrow!

info via Indie Wed website

So, the big bridal show is tomorrow! I think it's going to be a really fun event to take part in. And I mean, food & beer tastings? Yes, please. The other stylist and I have about 8 models and less than two hours to get them all primped. Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly! I'll be sure to post pictures of the gorgeous dresses they'll be wearing. That Kpoene' really knows her stuff. Here is a picture of one of the dresses (and model, Hi Emily!) that was at last week's show, and will be featured at Indie Wed again this weekend. Oh, and even better news..the models will be wearing some of my necklaces!

Happy belated Anniversary!

For as long as I can remember my parents have never realllly celebrated their anniversary. Ridiculous, I know. What's worse is they're fuzzy on the date. According to my mom she knows, "it's either the 14th or the 16th of January. I just can't remember the year."  According to my dad he "married her the day [he] set eyes on her." So, I checked it out today and it turns out their 23rd wedding anniversary was January 14th. So, Happy Anniversary, you crazy kids you.

Oh-- and hey, Mom..nice bangs.

In my shop

One of the necklaces you can find in my Etsy shop...feel free to mosey on over and check it out.

nailed it.

I get my nails done every two weeks, so this here is going to be where I share my bi-weekly design changes. The flowers didn't turn out exactly how I wanted, but it's still pretty sweet.

Also, how awesome is my shirt?

Practicing a new updo

Today was a lazy day so my lovely sister, Kate, let me throw together an updo and practice makeup techniques.
I think it turned out pretty well, yeah?

More to come!...

Exciting stuff coming up..

This week has been pretty exciting! I'm all set to do hair on a bunch of upcoming photoshoots. Some of the themes are circus, Marie Antionette, and old hollywood. How awesome do those shoots sound? And that's just a little taste of what I'm lined up for!

I just started working with Mignonette bridal shop in Lakeview downtown, and Kpoene' the wedding dress designer and shop owner is the best! She liked some of my necklaces in my etsy shop so much that she decided to sell some of them in her bridal shop (I'll blog all about her adorable store soon). Crazy, right? This weekend you'll find me at the Indie Wed bridal expo in downtown Chicago with her booth. I'll be doing some cute updos on her models for the show. Busy, busy, busy! And I'm hoping so many more opportunities come my way through all of this fun stuff coming up.

Oh, side note: my friend Sam came by this morning to get a few sun-kissed highlights and left with some adorable new bangs! Is she not the cutest?

Here we go..

“All men dream; but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.”

Welcome to my blog, if anybody is out there! I'm just going to jump right in and start blogging about any interesting thing I can think of--my developing jewelry line, my hairstyling adventures, and every day nonsense; so here we gooo...
